Who am I?

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Welcome to my world!  Home town is in the most spectacular Ottawa Valley though I am fairly happily living, teaching and writing  in the busy big city Calgary.

Thankfully the city offers wonderful green spaces for walking and hiking and the majestic Rocky mountains are but an hour away.  I heard (or read) that if I went on a different hike in the area every day, I would barely get through any of the trails waiting to be explored.  Lucky me!

Reading

Joseph Boyden The Orenda

Maybe the most important book I’ve read in years.  A contender for the 2014 Canada Reads, tells the story of the Wendat, Haudenosaunee, and the Jesuit in the early period of French colonisation.

Louise Penny  The Beautiful Mystery

My new favourite mystery writer – can’t wait to get my hands on the next Inspector Gamache novel, coming out in August 2013.

Listening

Loving the new Alabama Shakes album.

Mumford & Sons and The Decemberists  are almost always in my cd player.

And my favourite dancing arms video

Michael Bernard Fitzgerald live at Sunset Sessions in Las Vegas

  1. HI, Sheryl, This is long overdue. I wanted to thank you for leaving a comment on my blog [“Drinking Lessons”] but I also very much want to hear all about your trip to your son’s wedding and how it has been for you, not seeing him for four years. As I grapple with what it means to be a parent now that my son is older, I look to others to see what their experience has been. When you return from the wedding, I would love to get in touch and correspond a bit.
